Well, here we are. The Barbed Wire Babes on their first
excursion. It didn’t matter where we
went, where we were or what we did. As
long as we were together, we could guarantee that we would have the best time
ever.
This was my first time away with Sue, Donna and Sharon. They would often go on road trips but, as
usual, I was unable to go due to work, home or some ridiculous reason.
Not this time. We
planned the Harrisburg, PA Horse Expo for weeks. You would think that we were going on a
tropical island vacation the way we prepared.
We didn’t care. We were going on
a 3 day road trip and couldn’t wait for the days to come.
They did. The weekend of the Expo was finally here and we
ventured out with two cars… two because Sharon smokes and we listen to Rock and Roll…I am not too sure our other BWBs were ready for Ozzie
Osbourne and Bruce Springsteen for three hours….
Uneventful trip, couple of stops on the way and Harrisburg
here we are.
I never went to a horse expo. It is like Disney World for
horse people! Rows and Rows of farmers selling their new toys, venders selling
clothing, tack and just about anything you ever dreamed of that involved large
animals…
The stallion rows were the most fun… gorgeous animals and their
owners begging for bookings on discounted stud fees…
Sue was our tour guide.
Craig Cameron, her idol, was giving some demonstration on how to get
your horse to respond…so we went. We
carefully checked the schedule for the next few days and planned our strategy.
The trip back to the hotel was quick and easy. Check-in was smooth. So here we were, 4 wannabe cowgirls ready to
rock… but first, Sue went in and did “the bed bug check”
All clear.
Two beds. Sleeping
arrangements. Donna and Sue were used to
traveling together. For Sharon and me,
it was our first time together and yea, first time up close and personal!!
Sharon and I took the bed by the window. Sue created her traveling space by folding
down layers of blankets and carefully placed her traveling comforter over the
top…Strange behavior, I thought, but her explanation made sense… too many
people sleep here… I cover the sheets in my own so nothing touches me.
I liked that
theory. Donna was just so thrilled that
she got to sleep on Hampton Inn pillows that she could care less who slept
where.
This should be interesting.

How I miss those getaways! <3
